Unlike the main SquadChess game interface, which is played as a single stand-alone match, ChessScrolls is played as a campaign, with the story unfolding over a series of puzzle-based skirmishes.
Dialogue
Most scenes include a combination of dialgue and combat, but in true dungeon scroller form a player always has the option to skip the dialogue and get straight to the ass-kickin'.
Tap/click anywhere on screen during a dialogue scene to speed up the dialogue display, or press the "SKIP" button to skip all remaining dialogue in a scene. (Instructions and narrator messages will still be displayed.)
Keyboard players can also speed through dialogue by pressing the Space key, and can skip dialogue scenes with the Escape key.
Captures & Respawns
If a piece in the player's squad is captured during combat, that piece will respawn at the end of the combat scene as long as the player wins the battle.
If all the pieces in the player's squad are captured during combat, the game is lost. All progress in the current room will be reset, and the player's squad will respawn in the previous room.
Auto-Confirm
To improve the overall flow of play, auto-confirm is enabled for the first few map rooms in ChessScrolls.
Auto-confirm is disabled as soon as the player gains a second squad member.
